It is with a heavy heart that Kennedy & Graven announces the passing of our colleague and friend, Larry Wertheim.
Larry devoted more than 50 years to the firm, building a distinguished career focused on commercial and residential real estate. He was widely respected for his deep knowledge of the law and his lasting contributions to the field.
In addition to his practice, Larry shared his intellectual curiosity and love of reading as an instructor at Mitchell Hamline School of Law, where he taught courses on “Law and Literature.” He authored Real Estate Law for the Minnesota Practice Series publication, and also the law review article, The Law of the Simpsons, reflecting both his sharp legal mind and his appreciation of humor and culture.
Larry will be remembered not only as a brilliant and passionate attorney, but also as a kind, loyal, and generous colleague. His boisterous energy (and voice) will always be remembered at Kennedy & Graven. He brought energy, humor, and a distinctive presence to the firm, making a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of working with him.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Alice Okrent; his sons, Joel and Ira; his daughter-in-law, Betsy; and his grandchildren, Naomi and Maya.
We extend our deepest condolences to Larry’s family and friends, and to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed by all of us at Kennedy & Graven, and by the broader legal community.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, at Adath Jeshurun Congregation in Minnetonka, with additional Shiva services to follow. Memorials are preferred to the Okrent Wertheim Family Fund for Mental Health Services at JFCS or the ACLU.
